Hello, and welcome.
Attune with your body
Below are four different personas that I work with and they ways I belive I can help you Attune with your body. Maybe you identify with one or all of them, maybe none. If one stands out to you, this would be great to bring up in our first call!
Persona 1: You dissociate from your mind and body through food, alcohol, work or [insert x instument of choice]. You want to develop awareness and intuition of your body’s needs. Stop feeling so panicked, rushing from project to project and slow way down.
You may turn to food or alcohol and even busyness as a form of procrastination or when you are bored, restless, anxious, sad, stressed or for reasons you may not be conscious of.
You may deprive yourself when you are hungry because you are too busy, or need to make up for last night's binge, or just don’t have anything in the fridge. Maybe food was an escape growing up. Maybe food was how you were shown love. Maybe it was the go-to for emotional and mental stimulation. You lose track of how many drinks you’ve had that night, that week. You drink to feel connected with others. You drink to feel comfortable, to feel good enough in your body in order to dance or be intimate. With work and projects, you move fast from thing, to project, to place and have a gnawing feeling that life shouldn’t be this way. You want to reduce the panic you feel from slowing down.
Food, alcohol, and work are tools and can serve as methods of checking out. You want to develop a healthier relationship with these tools — a relationship that has respects the tool, yourself, and others around you.
How we work together - Slow Way Down
We will engage with these methods without judgment, with love and understanding for how they have served you.
I may invite you to cook, to slow down and savor your food, to feel nourished not just by eating but by touching and washing vegetables, by the sounds of chopping, by the smell of the kitchen coming alive with alchemical transformation, by the community of friends you’ve invited over for dinner. We can get curious about alcohol, about it’s role in your life and in society. People drink different reasons and cannot be lumped into one singular category. We can learn about your reasons without shame or shoulds. We will look into your work, your projects and look for threads of commonality. We can follow breadcrumbs back to childhood and look for clues of what brings you joy.
We will practice radical acceptance of yourself and your past. We will get curious about your why you may be using these intruments in a dissociative way. We may need to confront and set up boundaries for how you meet and engage with these tools. We will slow way down…this alone can feel like a revolutionary act.
Persona 2: Life feels dull, you’re going through the motions and there’s little if any excitement. You want to be enlivened by your life. Practice waking up your self-awareness and turning on your sensory experience of the world.
Not much excites you right now. You have feelings of listlessness, the blues, you may even be in a depressed state — heavy. This heaviness is hard to crawl out from underneath. You know you should move more, exercise more, go on walks, but it’s all so much effort.
Maybe you’re living a life full of shoulds. You tell yourself you should be more disciplined, you should wake up early, you should call your friends more, you should read more, you should make that career move, should should should should…should all the way down. You don’t have a lot of palpable intrinsic motivation, an internal fire that ignites you and jolts you out of bed in the morning. You’ve heard it’s possible. You know some people are energized by their life and you want that but don’t know how to get there.
You have lost connection with who you are and what makes you come alive.
How we work together - Consciousness (be with your senses)
We will work together to increase consciousness — con (with) sciousness (your senses). What do you hear, smell, see, feel, understand?
We can start by increasing awarness of what is happening around you, what sensations an emotions exist within you, gaining richer perception of yourself and the world around you. We can then move to strengthening your connection to what excites you. You may choose to keep a journal and take notes of small things throughout the day that give you a little zap in your belly, a beat in your chest. We’ll look for patterns in the data.
You have wisdom in your bones, your skin, your teeth…what do you know down to your marrow, what makes your skin crawl, what do you want to sink your teeth into?
Persona 3: You are smart and analytical but struggle to connect with people on a more emotional level. You crave intimacy. Feel into your heart and build greater intimacy with yourself and others.
Maybe you’ve been called “the logical one” the “intellectual” or the “problem solver” in your friend group. You are perhaps gifted one or more of the following areas — math, statistics, logic, philosophy. You may have excelled in standardized tests. You consider yourself an independent thinker. You enjoy understanding complex ideas for their own sake. You create your own intellectual frameworks for navigating the world and find yourself frustrated at the status quo.
You are brilliant in many areas, but are struggling to connect with people on a more intimate level. You are drawn to beauty, emotionality, and creative types. You want to integrate some of their kind magic for yourself.
How we work together - Connect With Heart
I will meet you in whatever space you are occupying. It may likely be your headspace. Headspace is beautiful and a necessary part of your being. We can play there. And this is not all that you are. We can then move toward accessing, being in, and living through different parts of the body. I can guide you to drop into your heart, into your gut, into your feet. The point isn’t to abandon the head, but to welcome, honor, and work with more of your being.
Persona 4: You struggle to be in your body, you tend to live in your head. You want to be in alliance and alignment with your body. Practice bringing gentle attention to more of your physical being.
Your body has perhaps been a point of pain, frustration, embarassment, anger. Maybe you’ve always wanted to lose wieight or gain muscle and haven’t. You see people who dance and move their bodies with joy and reverie but feel too shy to wriggle like that. You may turn pain and anger on yourself and put yourself through strict regiments, deny yourself nourshment, sleep, sunlight…fresh air.
How we work together- Connect with your body
The body is not immediately resourcing for everyone. Those who have experienced pain in their bodies may actually find it incredibly difficult to “drop it.” Checking out and leaving your body may have served you at a point in your life. You may have learned this as a protective mechanism. This was an intelligent response to a stressful situation. And it may be keeping you stuck in a cycle that you want to move on from.
In time, we can gently turn attention toward the body. We can ask our minds what narratives are running and get curious about those.
When you’re ready, we can move closer to the body. We can even dance.
Honor your creative
Honor your creative, invite your critic to rest, follow the breadcrumbs back to what you loved doing as a child, take yourself on artist dates, start creating now.
Embrace spontaneity
Invite the trickster, the fool, don’t take yourself so seriously, don’t take critiques so personally.
Can you play with your shadows or are they playing you?
